Philanthropic Partnerships

Education

Chubb supports the education endeavors of our employees’ dependents through a scholarship program. In 2015, 130 scholarships were given the children of Chubb employees to attend college at institutions all over the world.

School in Vietnam: The Foundation has partnered with the Central Vietnam Disaster Prevention Support Fund (QMT) to build a primary school in the Thanh Hoa Province of Vietnam.  As a result, 200 students living in rural Vietnam now have a well-built, safe school that can also provide safe shelter for residents in the event of a flood.

The Chubb/Bermuda College Education Award: In partnership with the Bermuda College – a two year community college – the Chubb Charitable Foundation-Bermuda has provided annual education awards to students seeking to continue undergraduate studies overseas.

USC Shoah Foundation: Past funding has supported the Shoah Foundation’s Witness for Humanity Rwanda genocide testimony and education project. The project supported the videotaping of interviews with survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Current funding supports the development of an English-language online learning activity to develop critical thinking capacities and responsible citizenship. This activity will be accessed by both American and Rwandan students and users worldwide through the Foundation’s IWitness online learning platform.

University of Pennsylvania Law School: The Chubb Charitable Foundation has provided funding to support the Chubb Rule of Law Fellowship. Penn Law graduates are afforded the opportunity to work with Human Rights First – a preeminent legal advocacy organization in rule of law and global human rights issues.

Support to education in the insurance industry: Through grants to organizations such as St. John’s University, the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, the Bermuda Insurance Institute, the Association of Bermuda Insurance Companies, the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Students, and the Spencer Educational Foundation, Chubb supports education initiatives oriented toward the insurance and risk management sciences.

Poverty & Health

Opportunity International – Colombia: Support given to grow the Trust Group Loan program in Colombia; providing opportunities to impoverished Colombian entrepreneurs to improve their business earnings and quality of life.

International Rescue Committee: A grant from the Chubb Charitable Foundation to provide support to the IRC’s Jobs to Careers program in the United States. This program provides support and training to refugees who are moving from entry level jobs to long-term careers on a path to transition out of poverty and into financial security.

Per Scholas: Chubb has provided multi-year support to Per Scholas, a workforce development program located in New York City. The program supports advanced IT certification, software testing training, and job placement assistance. The program is targeted to unemployed and underemployed people who will benefit from retraining.

Environment

The Conservation Fund: Through the Conservation Fund’s Chubb Land Legacy Fund and ShadeFund program, Chubb has provided $1 million in funding since 2006 for the conservation of more than 342,000 acres of critical lands and water resources in the U.S., as well as financing for green-business entrepreneurs.

The Nature Conservancy: A grant provided to support the continuation and expansion of coral reef restoration in the Mexican portion of the Mesoamerican Reef.

The Planet Water Foundation: The Chubb Charitable Foundation provided funding to build two AquaTowers in Indonesia. These two AquaTowers will make clean water available to more than 1,000 people in rural Indonesia.

The Bermuda Zoological Society and Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science: Support from the Chubb Charitable Foundation-Bermuda helps these organizations deliver free environmental education and internship programs for public primary and middle schools.

Roots of Peace: The Chubb Charitable foundation provided a two-year grant to Roots of Peace for the expansion of the Sustainable Horticulture and Agriculture Development Project (SHADE) in Vietnam.
